A Turkish invasion of Cyprus has been luckily averted by a storm at sea, but a deadlier enemy lurks within. Othello's subordinate Iago, furious at being passed over for promotion, hints that Othello's wife has been unfaithful. Iago manipulates people and events with such diabolical skill that the Moor is convinced of his wife's deceit.
