The Briar Patch™
Synopsis
Ten years ago, rebelling against having to enter the family
business as his father had wanted him to do, Art Briar left home to “find
himself.” After the first year he stopped communicating entirely and dropped
out of contact, leaving his parents and his two sisters confused and hurt. Now
he’s returned, unannounced, with a new wife (pregnant with their first child)
and a new last name. He hopes desperately to mend bridges – particularly with
his father – and to re-claim the future that he had once so fiercely rejected.
Unfortunately for Art, life is never that simple. In the
time he was away and out of touch, his father passed away, the business closed,
and the rest of his family (particularly his once-adoring kid sister) found
ways to adapt and move on with their lives. Now that Art has returned, old
wounds are reopened and new tensions arise – not the least of which is the
turmoil that Art’s wife Rosie experiences as she attempts to relate to a family
of in-laws that up until now Art had told her did not exist.
Family can be
prickly.™
